Introduction to Alimats™

The Alimats™ system is a purpose designed / engineered product, specifically developed to spread outrigger loadings from mobile cranes and other site plant.

It is a unique modular interlocking system, with each individual module measuring 1740 x 580 x 60mm (1.0m²) and weighing 38kg. Three interlocked modules form the base layer, and two interlocked modules placed on top at 90º to those beneath complete the 3.0m² pad. Five modules / 3.0m² pad, 20 modules per crane.

Many companies are now using Alimats™ on a regular basis to ensure safe lifting. Our clients include BP, UK Atomic Energy, UK Fire Service, Interserve, Laing, Mansell, Kier, Barratt Homes etc etc, in addition to many precast concrete / structural steelwork companies and an ever increasing number of crane hire companies.

The system is available on hire from £130.00 / week for a full set of 20 mats, which provides 3m² of mat area per outrigger. It may be possible to discuss further hire discount should your company wish to consider multiple sets on long-term hire. We provide an extremely reliable deliver / collect service, enabling companies to book the Alimats™ for any required period from a single day upwards.

It should also be noted that our 3m² of mat area per outrigger, reduces an example 45 tonnes crane rigger jack load to;
15 tonnes / m² of pressure onto the hardstand beneath the Alimats™.

This compares to the "standard as travels mats" of say an 80 tonne crane (typically 900mm diameter) providing 0.64m² of mat area and resulting in;
70 tonnes / m² of pressure onto the hardstand beneath the mats for the same 45 tonnes crane rigger jack load.

Alimats™ offer unique benefits and are exclusively manufactured by BFL.

They are the only large crane mat system which can be set up by hand (2 man lift, 38kg / module). This portability / simplicity of set up avoids the need for additional plant to move mats around on site and enables any sub-contractor instructed to use them to do so without risk of delays.

Alimats are increasingly being considered as a "standard" solution to the issue of construction plant outrigger load spread on site. It provides a practical, cost effective method of enabling Site Managers to offer a standard system solution to all sub-contractors undertaking mobile crane lifts to reduce applied outrigger pressure to acceptable levels. In addition, the mats can also be utilized for Hiab / Lorry Loader deliveries, MEWPS and concrete pumps.

This would significantly improve site safety and can avoid the need to undertake more extensive groundwork revisions to the hardstand areas to enable plant to operate with smaller "standard" pads.

• No need for mobile cranes to short rig to lift / place its own increased size mats. This is often not addressed on the Lift Plan / should be considered to avoid increased pressures exerted in the temporary short rigged state.
• Safety textured finish - Aids purchase at mat interface and between the Alimats™ layers

Main Contractors - Standard CPA Contract Lift conditions state the Client should provide and maintain an adequate hardstand for the imposed crane loads. This is also a standard condition for the vast majority of sub-contractors undertaking Mobile Crane operations as part of their works package. Offer Alimats™ to all of your contractors undertaking lift operations (Contract Lift or standard CPA Hire) to reduce hardstand bearing capacity requirements to more achievable levels.

The new modules have identical strength and design characteristics as the original Standard modules, but are shorter in length and critically weigh only 25KG

The Short Alimats now bridge the gap in the market between the standard "as travels" mats currently on the market (e.g. 900mm diameter mats providing 0.64m2 of load spread area)and the Standard Alimats rig of 3m2.

Our first client for the Alimats Short Modules is the UK Fire Service. The Alimats have been purchased to provide heavy lifting support for its hydraulic jacking equipment, as an integral part of their emergency response units.
